What are your business hours?
Our business hours are flexible because we make moves happen every day, 365 days a year. Most moves take place 7 AM–11 PM, but our team is happy to accommodate after-hour moves when needed. *Holiday appointments are scheduled on a limited basis.
What are your prices?
Our moving prices vary based on your specific needs. Local moving in Illinois is charged by the hour, but our hourly rate depends on the number of crew members needed to safely and efficiently complete your move. Get your free moving estimate today!
Do you have an hourly minimum?
Yes, we do have an hourly minimum. Our hourly minimum is only two hours.
How far in advance should I schedule my move?
We recommend scheduling your move as far in advance as possible. New City Moving does not require a deposit or charge cancellation fees, so there is no downside to booking your move early. However, if you call on short notice with any last-minute requests, our team will do everything they can to accommodate you and your move.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept several convenient payment methods. We accept cash, postal money orders, and all major credit cards.
Do you require a deposit?
No, we do not require a deposit. We understand plans change, and we do not believe in enforcing penalties for changes or cancellations. However, if you foresee any changes and need to reschedule or cancel your move, we appreciate as much notice as possible so we can work with you to reschedule your move! Advanced notice also allows us to release your original move date and time to another customer on our waitlist.
What size moves can you accommodate?
We can accommodate moves of all sizes. New City Moving provides all types of moving services, including local moves (within Illinois), office and commercial building relocations, piano moving, and art and antique moving.
What areas do you service?
We service local moves throughout Illinois and are happy to assist with long-distance moves to Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Missouri, Iowa and Minnesota!
Do you move pianos and pool tables?
Yes, we do. New City Moving’s specialty movers can safely transport your piano with the proper equipment and care. We recommend a professional pool table company to disassemble and reassemble your prized pool table. However, we would be happy to relocate it for you!
What is a standard tip for my movers?
A standard tip for your movers is always optional, but our crews appreciate it if you decide to provide gratuity for exceptional service. The amount is left to your discretion, but we recommend $5–$10 per mover per hour for excellent service.
What if something gets damaged during my move?
If something gets damaged during your move, our team will respond quickly to make it right. While damage is rare, accidents can happen. New City Moving provides moving protection and insurance options for your peace of mind. Simply contact your move coordinator to report the issue, and they’ll work with you to resolve it as soon as possible.
Do you provide equipment for my move?
Yes, we provide all the equipment needed for your move. Every New City Moving truck is equipped with dollies, blankets, and all the moving essentials our crew needs to make your move a success. While basic moving equipment is standard with each move, your move coordinator will itemize any additional materials you may need access to on move day.
What if my move takes more or less time than the estimate?
If your move takes less or more time than the estimate, there’s no need to worry. An estimate is just that, an estimate, so the actual hours of the move may differ slightly. To ensure you only pay for the time you actually use, all bills are prorated to the closest 15 minutes (after the 2-hour minimum has been met).
Can I help during the move?
You’re welcome to help prepare for the moving crew, but our insurance does not allow anyone other than the New City Moving crew to load and unload the moving truck. We encourage you to take this time to kick back and relax as the heavy lifting gets done for you!
